My 2014 Mazda6 engine consumed nearly a full quart of oil during it's first 2-3k also. I changed the oil at 5k (myself) with Mobil 1 AFE 0w20 and oem oil filter, and from 5-10k the engine seems to have stopped its excessive consumption.
